LOGO
The logo was created to be versatile and evoke a sense of time. At the center is a modern interpretation of the historic Old Main building on Macalester’s campus, whose simple line-drawing relates to the artwork I designed for the annual “Mac in Your City” event, which focuses on the global alumni network. The circle encapsulates the literal “Macalester Moment”, the time one attends the college, while the line work extends beyond the circle, connecting your “moment” to your life and experiences beyond the campus.
ON CAMPUS
Serving as an introduction to the new campaign, we made 20 different banner sets that are displayed around campus. The banners highlight different “moments” from alumni, staff, and faculty that demonstrate the global need for Macalester and a quality liberal arts education.
MOMENTS THAT INSPIRE US BROCHURE
Several of these “moments” were featured in the 24-page Moments That Inspire Us brochure I designed, outlining the campaign and its goals.
SAVE THE DATE
The first public material relating to the launch event I created was the save the date. The use of the new logo, the screened-back tartan, and the bold typeface come together to create an intriguing piece that stands out in your mailbox. The text on the back stating “We’ve got something big planned” is exciting and the linework links the words, the logo, and the sense of time that the launch will also utilize.
SAVE THE DATE
Utilizing the same screened-back tartan as the save the date, the invitation puts the campaign logo front-and-center. Similarly to the save the date, the invitation is a standout piece from the moment it is pulled out of your mailbox. The Mac sky blue envelope and matching band are bright and fun and serve as the official introduction to the new campaign and the launch party.
CAMPAIGN LAUNCH PROGRAM
The 32-page booklet acts as both an explanation of the now-public campaign, expanding on the “moments” motif and emphasizing the campaign priorities, as well as a program of events for the evening. Attendees are encouraged to travel to the different “booths” to interact with students, faculty, and staff to get their passport stamped. The design utilizes the circle and extending line motif in a stylized, modernized “passport”.
MOMENTS TIMELINE
This 25-foot banner combines important moments in the college’s history with space for attendees to add their own “Macalester Moment”. The design uses the campaign logo in place of the “o” to signify Macalester as the anchor of these many moments, and uses the extending lines to once again emphasize how these moments extend beyond time and the physical space of Macalester.
CAMPAIGN BOOTH SIGNAGE
From 5-foot wide, 10-foot long banners that explain the campaign priorities, to table-tents with faculty biographies, there were many pieces of signage that went into each “booth”. Without creating physical walls, I used color to signify each of the defined areas, creating identities that all of the signage in that area utilized. This aspect of the design allowed for an overall cohesion that moved your eye from space to space.
